Festivals–Gullah Festival

Preservation Activities Performed:

Acidic folders were replaced with acid-free, lignin-free file folders. Newspaper clippings were photocopied onto archival paper and originals were discarded. Clippings that covered miscellaneous subjects represented in the Beaufort District Collection’s Vertical Files were removed from this collection and added to the Vertical Files so as to improve access and fill in gaps. Those subjects removed include Gullah culture, Pat Conroy, motion pictures, Lady’s Island Elementary School, Penn Center, and Beaufort County government. Other redundant records were discarded.
